Category 4 Hurricane Beryl Threatens Windward Islands

Extremely Dangerous Storm Inches Closer

Hurricane Beryl has rapidly intensified into a Category 4 storm and poses a life-threatening threat to the Windward Islands. As of 5 pm EDT, Beryl has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph with stronger gusts.

Beryl Brings Devastating Winds

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns that Beryl could bring devastating winds and heavy rain to the Windward Islands, including Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. The NHC has issued hurricane warnings for these islands.

First Hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic Season

Beryl is the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season, which typically runs from June 1st to November 30th. It is unusual for a hurricane to form this early in the season, as the Atlantic is typically quiet during the first few months.

Tracking Tropical Waves

In addition to Beryl, the NHC is also tracking two tropical waves in the Atlantic Ocean. One of these waves could potentially develop into Tropical Storm Beryl if it continues to organize and strengthen.
