Toni Kroos announces retirement from international football following Euro 2024

World Cup winner to call time on Germany career after next summer's tournament

The 32-year-old has been a mainstay of the German midfield for over a decade, winning the World Cup in 2014 and the Confederations Cup in 2017.

Kroos made his international debut in 2010 and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for his country. He has been a key part of Germany's success in recent years, playing a starring role in their World Cup triumph in Brazil.

Kroos has been in excellent form for Real Madrid this season, helping the Spanish giants win the Champions League and La Liga. However, he has decided to call time on his international career after next summer's European Championship.

"I have decided to retire from international football after the 2024 European Championship," Kroos said in a statement. "It was a difficult decision, but I believe it is the right one for me and for the team."

"I have had an incredible time playing for Germany and I am grateful for all the memories I have made. I will always cherish the moments I have shared with my teammates and the fans."

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career. I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life and I am excited to see what the future holds."
